Specialist Osteopathic Approaches
Classical OsteopathyThe term “classical” expresses the traditional nature of Osteopathy. It does not restrict itself to symptomatic relief but aims to improve the musculo-skeletal integrity, stability and the body’s relationship to gravity. The treatment is based on the principal that the body, in its optimum condition, has the power to heal itself.
Classical Osteopathy works with this understanding of the body’s natural ability to repair. By working with compromised aspects of the musculo-skeletal system Classical Osteopathy gives the body the means to move closer towards health both physiologically and structurally. The Classical Osteopath treats the whole body in order to re-establish and integrate the close relationship between the bones, joints, nervous system, organs and movement of fluid. Treatment of this kind is applied through an 'Osteopathic Body Adjustment' which consists of gentle and safe rhythmical articulations and manipulations applied throughout the body. |
Cranial OsteopathyCranial Osteopathy is a gentle, safe and effective approach to treatment throughout the whole body. Cranial is the name given to a subtle and refined approach to Osteopathic treatment and diagnosis. This approach uses a highly developed sense touch to detect subtle patterns of tension and change in tissue quality. Osteopaths are often drawn to areas that have been involved in past events, such as old accidents and injuries.
The body may have adapted and compensated for these past events without the patient being aware but may still relevant to current symptoms. Consideration and treatment of these apparent compensatory tension patterns through cranial Osteopathic methods allows the Osteopath to work with and activate the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Cranial Osteopathy is another tool the Osteopath can use to understand and treat the cause of the symptoms, to reduce the chance of symptoms returning in the future. |
Rehabilitative Exercise PrescriptionRehabilitation is the process to regain full function following injury and involves restoring strength, flexibility, endurance and power. This can be achieved through exercise prescription and graded return to normal activities.
We feel this element of recovery can often be as important as the treatment itself but is unfortunately often overlooked. We provide full rehabilitation and exercise programs where needed to ensure your full recovery and prevent re-injury occurring. |
Gait AssessmentGait analysis offers an opportunity for the clinical assessment of posture in action during walking or running. This gives us a dynamic insight into total body function and allows us to pin point areas of decreased functional capability.
Once pin pointed we then work to functionally integrate these areas to resume you back to optimum function. |
Functional Active ReleaseFunctional active release involves the application of soft tissue and joint articulation techniques by the practitioner combined with gentle functional movements performed by the patient. The combination of active engagement of the nervous system allows for greater muscle and nerve supply adaptation. This creates quicker and longer-lasting results.
